MLA Kupwara sought CM’s intervention for release of photojournalist Kamran Yousuf

SRINAGAR, FEB 02 : Ruling Peoples Conference MLA from Kupwara Bashir Ahmad Dar on Friday sought personal intervention of Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti for the release of freelance photojournalist Kamran Yousuf.

Yousuf, a resident of Pulwama district, was arrested by the National Investigation Agency last year.

Dar was speaking during discussion on grants for Home department in the Legislative Assembly. “It would be better if CM Sahiba will intervene to get photojournalist (Kamran Yousuf) released so that he will live his life in a dignified way,” he said.

Earlier, a court in New Delhi accepted framing of charges against Pakistan-based Hafiz Saeed and Syed Salahuddin, seven Kashmiri separatist leaders, a businessman and two youth, including Kamran Yousuf.

The court listed the matter for a March 8 hearing. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on January 18 filed charges under stringent anti-terror laws against the jailed separatist leaders for allegedly conspiring with Saeed and Salahuddin to wage war against India and secede Jammu and Kashmir.

The NIA also charged businessman Zahoor Ahmad Watali, freelance photojournalist Kamran Yousuf and Kulgam youth Javed Ahmed Bhat. (PTK)
