Kupwara minor boy’s brutal killing! Govt hands over investigation to Crime branch

Srinagar, Aug 31 : Nearly a month after a minor boy was killed under mysterious circumstances in Hanjipora Kupwara, Government has handed over the case to Crime branch of State Police. The decision came after a persistent demand from locals who had been demanding an impartial probe into the brutal killing of the minor boy.
Umar Farooq son of Farooq Ahmad Malik who was missing from his native village near Kupwara town had been found dead in Hanjipora village days after he went missing last month.
“The news of his brutal killing had sent people of the area into instant mourning and anger. People staged protests on the streets for many days demanding the arrest of culprits. However Police despite tireless efforts could not nab the culprits prompting government to handover the case to Crime branch.
IGP Crime Syed Afadul Mujtaba told KNS that an SIT has been constituted under DSP M Afzal who will visit Kupwara and begin the probe.
Meanwhile, sources told KNS that probing the killing won’t be a cake walk for crime branch team as many important evidences have been destroyed. Sources said that crime team would take possession of case diary from Police before initiating the investigations.
Umar was a student of third primary in Usmania Public School in Kupwara town.
The boy went missing from his native village Hanjipora. Once the news of his disappearance spread in the area it triggered relentless protests and shutdown. “There was shutdown in adjacent Batergam and Gulgam villages as well,” a local resident said.
SSP Kupwara had later confirmed that the body of the minor was recovered from Hanjipora village. He said that SIT headed by ASP Kupwara has been constituted. “A board of doctors will examine the postmortem and it will be video-graphed,” he has said. “In this connection, a case FIR No. 192/2018 under section 302, 363 RPC has already been registered in police station Kupwara.” However the police could not trace the culprits even after forty days of the tragic incident forcing government to handover the case to Crime branch.
