Outrage as videos of youth being shot, another being tied up with army vehicle goes viral
Srinagar: Shocking videos of a youth being shot at by paramilitary troopers and another being tied up with an army vehicle in central Kashmir’s Budgam district have emerged online, triggering outrage and anger in Valley.
The first video shows stone-pelting between youth and paramilitary forces – apparently ITBP or CRPF – near a polling station somewhere in Budgam district on April 9. The video shows a group of around 12 boys and equal number of forces men clashing with each other and it appears the video was shot by poll staff, according to the voice in background.
The intensity of the clashes was not high, according to the video, but a paramilitary man first aims and then fires multiple shots towards one boy from point blank range and as per the voice in the background, the bullets hit his head and he dies on the spot. Soon, the boy can be seen being evacuated.
It is not immediately clear where the video was shot but according to reports received here, police have registered a case into the incident. Meanwhile, another video that has created anger and outrage is of a youth who can be seen tied with an army vehicle, somewhere in Budgam district. The video was also tweeted by former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
The video shows a man tied with an army rakhsak vehicle enroute to unidentified location while another casper vehicle of army also plies behind. In the video, army man purportedly can be heard saying “see this will happen to stone-pelters”. “Reference video showing young man tied to an #Army Jeep: Contents of video being verified and investigated,” the army said in a tweet.
Omar Abdullah, the NC working president and former CM, said took to twitter and said: “Here’s the video as well. A warning can be heard saying stone pelters will meet this fate. This requires an urgent inquiry & follow up NOW!! (sic)”.
He further wrote: “Let’s see channels going ballistic &having discussions with outraged panelists now. Probably not since “Kashmir is ours” hell with Kashmiris”. Reports received meanwhile said that the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has taken “serious note of the disturbing emerging online from Budgam” and sought a report. (GNS)
