Harkat-ul-Mujahideen slams UN, says Salahuddin a freedom fighter

SRINAGAR (KPS): Harkat-ul-Mujahideen (HuM) militant organization slammed United Nation (UN) for designating Hizb ul Mujahideen’s (HM) supreme commander Syed Salahuddin as a “Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT)”.

In a tele-statement to KPS (Kashmir Press Service), Harkat-ul-Mujahideen, Operation chief, Moulana Sajjad Shahid said that UN should not intervene in to these matters if they can’t see the unabated human rights violations and innocent killings in Kashmir.  “Syed Salahuddin is a freedom fighter. He is a leader of Kashmiri people. We are with HM in this freedom fight”, he said.

While slamming UN, he said that they are terrorists adding that how can they declare anybody as terrorist. “Kashmir is highest militarized zone where injustice, disappearances and killings have become order of the day.  UN failed to take note of these atrocities, so they can’t decide the fate of this nation”, he told KPS.

Pertinently, the United States (US) State Department designated Hizb ul Mujahideen’s supreme commander Syed Salahuddin as a “Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT)” and imposed sanctions on him. Syed Salahuddin, the Hizb ul Mujahideen chief is based in Pakistan administered Kashmir.

The development surfaced hours ahead of a meeting between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump.

“Mohammad Yusuf Shah, AKA Syed Salahuddin, is the senior leader of the militant group Hizbul Mujahideen (HM). In September 2016, Salahuddin vowed to block any peaceful resolution to the Kashmir conflict, threatened to train more Kashmiri suicide bombers, and vowed to turn the Kashmir valley into a graveyard for Indian forces. Under Salahuddin’s tenure as senior HM leader, HM has claimed responsibility for several attacks, including the April 2014 explosives attack in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, which injured 17 people,” US Department of State said in a statement.
