Rural house construction – Nadia top district in India
Kolkata, Jun 6 :After becoming the first district in the country to be declared
open defecation free (ODF), Nadia gets another feather in its cap – number one
in Gramin Awaas Yojana.
According to a Central Government report, the district achieved the feat for both
the 2016-17 and 2017-18 financial years. For 2016-16, 98.06 per cent of the target
of 48,520 houses has been completed, the official sources here on Wednesday
said.
The district administration had combined Gramin Awaas Yojana (earlier known
as Indira Awaas Yojana) with Mission Nirmal Bangla and 100 Days’ Work Scheme
to construct, along with houses, toilets, vermin pits and compost pits, too. LPG
and electrical connections were also provided all across the district.
Over the two financial years, Rs 660 crore had been spent in all.
Thus, Nadia has become a beacon of development and for this, the active
encouragement of the district administration by the ruling state government is
largely responsible.
