Peoples Democratic Party president and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has written to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah urging him to convene an all-party meeting and lead a collective political outreach to the Central Government, warning that "time is running out" for Jammu and Kashmir.
In her letter, Mehbooba drew parallels with recent negotiations in Ladakh, where the Leh Apex Body and Kargil Democratic Alliance secured progress through sustained dialogue with the Centre, arguing that similar engagement could yield results for Jammu and Kashmir.
Describing the region as standing "at a crossroads" amid widespread public disillusionment, the PDP chief called for a broad political consensus rising above party lines and urged Omar Abdullah to formally reach out to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for sustained dialogue.
"If we want to restore the dignity and security of our people, a constructive dialogue with Government of India is a much needed imperative," she wrote, adding that the moment must become one of unification rather than political point-scoring.
Mehbooba said she had earlier sought an appointment with the Chief Minister but wrote directly given his preoccupations, and attached a list of political parties already approached for the proposed initiative, inviting him to include additional stakeholders as necessary.
