Srinagar Police Issues Advisory For Peaceful Muharram Processions

Srinagar Police today issued a public advisory urging participants to observe Muharram processions with peace, dignity and discipline, outlining a set of dos and don'ts for all those taking part.

Police have asked participants to follow all directions issued by the administration and police authorities, cooperate with traffic police and volunteers, ensure processions remain confined to permitted routes, and respect the religious sentiments of all communities.

Participants have also been urged to protect public and government property and maintain cleanliness throughout the observance.

On the other hand, police have strictly warned against raising provocative slogans, making inflammatory speeches, obstructing traffic or pedestrian movement, and damaging or defacing public and government property.

The advisory also prohibits the display of provocative banners, posters or flags, disrespecting the National Flag, displaying symbols of any foreign country or organisation, and engaging in any activity detrimental to the integrity, sovereignty and unity of the nation.

"Public cooperation will ensure a peaceful and dignified observance of Muharram, based on the principles of peace, respect, harmony and responsibility," the advisory stated.
