Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday reaffirmed the Centre's commitment to restoring statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, urging people to trust the assurances given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah on the floor of Parliament.
Speaking to a national television channel, Sinha said statements made in Parliament carry constitutional and political importance and that statehood would be restored at an appropriate time following delimitation and Assembly elections, as previously announced. He said CM Omar Abdullah was functioning effectively but refrained from responding to NC's repeated demands for immediate statehood restoration.
The LG said J&K had witnessed major improvements in peace, security and economic activity, with tourism, infrastructure and agriculture recording significant progress. He added that militant recruitment had declined drastically, several top commanders had been eliminated, and all those involved in the Pahalgam attack were neutralized within 72 hours under Operation Sindoor. On drugs, he linked narco-trafficking directly to terror financing and said property attachment drives would continue.
