Srinagar Runway Work Forces Baggage Cap on Return Haj Flights, MoMA Explains

The Union Ministry of Minority Affairs (MoMA) on Monday clarified that baggage restrictions on Haj pilgrims returning to Srinagar were necessitated solely by ongoing runway maintenance and a NOTAM issued for Srinagar Airport, which imposed temporary payload limitations on aircraft for flight safety reasons.

Return Haj flights operated by Akasa Airlines for the Srinagar embarkation point have been rerouted via Ahmedabad. Pilgrims may carry up to 35 kg of check-in baggage until Ahmedabad, but only 5 kg will be allowed onboard on the Ahmedabad–Srinagar sector. The remaining 30 kg will be transported to the Valley separately by road.

J&K Haj Committee CEO Dr. Shujaat Ahmad Qureshi assured pilgrims that their remaining luggage would reach Kashmir within a few days, adding that Zamzam water had already arrived in Srinagar for airport distribution.

The Ministry said MoMA, the Haj Committee of India, and the J&K Haj Committee are coordinating with all stakeholders to ensure a smooth and safe return for pilgrims.
