UP Assy, council disrupted over threat on SP president

Lucknow, Feb 17 (UNI) The principle opposition Samajwadi Party members stalled the proceedings of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly on Monday over alleged threat on the life of party president Akhilesh Yadav.
The proceedings of the state legislative council, where the SP has the majority, too was adjourned over the same issue.
The SP members trouped in the well of the house as the Assembly commenced at 1100 hours, with Leader of the Opposition Ram Govind Choudhury charged that party president Akhilesh Yadav was being given life threat on his mobile phone.
He alleged that the BJP and the UP government was trying to kill their leader and were disrupting the political rallies of the SP.
State parliamentary affairs minister Suresh Kumar Khanna claimed that they have all honour for Akhilesh Yadav, who is also the former chief minister of the state.
‘It is the entire society which has threat from the Samajwadi Party and not of Akhilesh Yadav as the members are alleging”, Mr Khanna said.
Speaker Hridya Narain Dikshit tried to pacify the members, but when they refused to hear him, he adjourned for house for 30 minutes, just after five minutes of the proceedings.
Later it was extended up to 1220 hours. The question hour was also suspended due to the disruption.

During the pandemonium, the BSP members tried to raise the issue of dalit atrocities in Kanpur Dehat area, but their voice cannot be heard in the noisy scenes of the SP members.
After the adjournment of the house, the SP members continued to sit on dharna in the well of the house.
Earlier, the SP members had sought for an adjournment by giving a notice under rule 311 to the Speaker.
In the notice they claimed that when Akhilesh Yadav was addressing a public rally at Kannauj on February 5 last, when a youth came near the leader and raised slogan against him.
The notice also says about the people who are using abusive language through social media against the leader.
