Seven drug peddlers arrested, contraband recovered in Kashmir
Srinagar, Apr 29: Seven drug peddlers were arrested and huge cache of contraband was recovered from them in three separate places in Kashmir valley, a police official said here on Wednesday.
He said that following specific information, a checkpoint was established at Kondabal Saffapora in Ganderbal on Tuesday. “Police intercepted two persons, riding a motorcycle, at the checkpoint,” he said, adding that during checking contraband was recovered from them.
He said the accused, identified as Hilal Ahmad Khan and Mudasir Ahmad Shah, were immediately taken into custody.
In Awantipora, he said officers at a checkpoint established at RH Cannal road Awantipora intercepted a vehicle with two persons onboard. “During search, one kg of Cannabis was recovered from their possession,” he said, adding the duo was arrested.
He said officers at a checkpoint established near Toll Plaza on the national highway in Awantipora intercepted a vehicle with three persons onboard. “During search, 500 gms of Cannabis was recovered from their possession,” he said, adding the trio was immediately arrested.
“Police has registered separate cases in all three incidents,” he said.
“Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law,” he said.
“Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace as reiterated in our community meetings,” he added.
