Saturday Declared as Eid Day After No Moon Sighting on Thursday

Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Saturday across Jammu and Kashmir, as no confirmed sighting of the crescent moon was reported on Thursday evening.

The announcement was made by Grand Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam, who said that persistent cloud cover and unfavourable weather conditions across the Valley hampered visibility, making moon sighting difficult.

“There has been no confirmed report of moon sighting from any area,” the Grand Mufti said after reviewing inputs from various parts of the region.

He added that such situations are not uncommon, especially when dense clouds interfere with the brief window available for sighting the crescent after sunset.

With the absence of moon sighting on Thursday, the holy month of Ramadan will complete 30 days, and Eid-ul-Fitr will now be observed on Saturday.

Reports also confirmed that the crescent moon was not sighted in India as well as in Pakistan, further indicating that Eid-ul-Fitr will be observed on Saturday across the region.

With the moon not sighted, the holy month of Ramadan will complete 30 days on Friday.

Meanwhile, authorities clarified that all educational institutions and government offices will remain open on Friday, March 20, as the holiday on account of Jumat-ul-Vida had already been observed on March 14.

Muslims across the region will now celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr on Saturday with religious fervour and traditional enthusiasm.
