Ghulam Rasool Hami Calls for Eradication of Drugs, Alcohol at Lolab Gathering

Karwani Islami International Chief Allama Dr. Ghulam Rasool Hami on Friday urged the eradication of drugs and alcohol, describing them as the "mother of all evils," while addressing a large gathering in Lolab.

Speaking to thousands of people, Allama Hami said the Valley of Kashmir is the abode of saints, Sufis, and Rishis, where lofty spiritual values and noble human ideals have deeply flourished over centuries. He stressed that preserving this unique spiritual legacy in its true essence is a moral and human responsibility of every Kashmiri.

Hami attributed Kashmir's centuries-long tradition of peace, moderation, and brotherhood to the teachings of revered Sufis, adding that the people's attachment to these teachings had historically protected the men, women, and youth of the Valley from moral decline.

He warned, however, that distancing from the ideology of saints and Sufis is pushing the younger generation toward drugs, narcotics, alcohol, and other modern-day evils. He emphasised that imparting moral education to the youth and familiarising them with the lives and teachings of saints and Sufis is the need of the hour.

Referring to the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, Hami described it as an extremely important initiative and called on every individual to support it in order to cleanse society from drug addiction and the illegal narcotics trade.

He further urged the current government to take active measures to impose a ban on alcohol, calling it an urgent necessity of the present era.
