A Special Investigation Team has been constituted to probe the death of a 12-year-old girl whose body was recovered near her residence in Budgam on Sunday morning, hours after she was reported missing.
Police said the missing person complaint was received at Police Station Budgam on May 23 at around 10 PM, following which FIR No. 139/2026 was registered under Sections 137(1) and 103 of the BNS and a search operation launched. The SIT is being supervised by Sajad Ahmad and is examining all possible angles.
Police strongly warned the public and media against disclosing the victim's identity, photographs or any identifying details, saying such disclosure is prohibited under law. Authorities said some individuals have already been found sharing the victim's photos online and warned of strict legal action. Social media activity linked to the case is being closely monitored.
