Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat on Sunday said Jammu and Kashmir Police continuously fights Pakistani-sponsored terrorism and remains committed to safeguarding the nation, while welcoming nearly 4,000 newly recruited constables into the force at the Armed Police Complex Zewan.
Addressing the appointment letter distribution ceremony, the DGP congratulated the recruits and their families, saying joining the force is not merely a job but a symbol of sacrifice, dedication, and service to the nation.
"Whether it is Pakistani-sponsored terrorism, organised crime, narcotics or law-and-order challenges, J&K Police stand firm in every situation. During disasters, emergencies, pilgrimages or tourist movement, the force remains at the forefront," he said.
Biggest Recruitment in Recent Years
The DGP said around 4,000 youth, including more than 600 women, have been selected in what he described as the biggest recruitment exercise conducted by J&K Police in recent years. He noted that the posts were advertised in 2014 and over 5.5 lakh candidates had applied from across Jammu and Kashmir.
With the sanctioned strength of constables at around 53,000 and currently over 40,000 personnel posted, the DGP said the fresh induction would considerably reduce vacancies and enhance operational capabilities. He added that recruitment for another 6,484 constables has already been initiated.
The DGP said the new recruits would act as force multipliers in anti-terror operations being carried out in mountains, forests, ridges, and far-flung areas.
Educated, Tech-Savvy Recruits
Highlighting the educational profile of the new batch, the DGP said many among the selected candidates are graduates, postgraduates, and B.Tech and M.Tech degree holders. He said technically qualified youth would be utilised in specialised areas, calling J&K Police a technology-driven and citizen-centric force.
He said recruits would undergo extensive training in physical fitness, mental strength, Nyaya Sanhita, technology, jungle warfare, and modern policing methods, and urged interested candidates to volunteer for elite units like Snow Leopards, Markhor, and the Special Operations Group.
A Legacy of Sacrifice
Referring to the sacrifices of the force, the DGP said 1,620 personnel of J&K Police have laid down their lives for the country.
"This is our golden legacy and you are its inheritors. You have to fight terrorism, eliminate crime and also take on the menace of drugs," he said.
He also advised the recruits to maintain respectful relations with the public, saying mutual respect and public trust are essential in policing. "You are no longer ordinary civilians. We wear our uniform with pride and serve with humility," he added.
